With implants, compression-based
Am I unable to have a mammogram?

Because mammography compresses the breast firmly during imaging, we are often asked, 'Is it safe to have my breasts pressed that hard for breast cancer screening after breast augmentation?' That firm-compression imaging technique is called mammography, and since it involves some pain, patients may worry about implant rupture. At U&U, a technologist specializing in augmented breasts performs the imaging with minimal pain and no damage to the implant, and rupture can be checked by ultrasound, so you can rest assured.

What is mammography?

Mammography is an examination in which the breast is compressed and imaged in craniocaudal and mediolateral views — the most fundamental test for detecting breast cancer. It is useful for finding breast cancers too small to detect by self-examination or a physician's examination, and it is the only test proven to lower mortality through the early detection that regular screening provides. Mammography and breast ultrasound are complementary: ultrasound is superior at detecting masses and cysts, but it cannot find calcified lesions — one of the important early signs of breast cancer — so mammography must be performed alongside it for accurate screening.

Does having implants make compression mammography impossible?

What makes U&U mammography special
Immediate verification of implant condition
Anyone with an implant naturally worries about rupture from compression. At U&U, a clinic specializing in breast surgery, a technician experienced with breast augmentation performs the imaging without damaging the implant, and right afterward the SAMSUNG V8 ultrasound in the next room can confirm whether any rupture has occurred — so even those anxious about being examined at other clinics can visit with confidence.
Collaborative care with a board-certified breast surgeon
Many plastic surgery clinics offer pre- and post-operative ultrasound, yet most do not have mammography — the key to early breast cancer detection — due to space, staffing, or facility constraints. At U&U, where we pursue healthy and happy breast surgery, we have made mammography available in-house to spare our patients worry and inconvenience.
Pre- and post-operative ultrasound at other plastic surgery clinics that merely checks tissue thickness or implant condition cannot serve as early breast cancer screening. At U&U, the operating plastic surgeon and a board-certified breast surgeon work together, double-checking for an accurate diagnosis of breast disease and implant condition and the best possible results.
