Can a needle biopsy rupture my implant?

With procedures that puncture from the outside — Mammotome, fine-needle aspiration, core needle biopsy — fear of implant damage is only natural. At U&U, an experienced breast surgeon performs these tests under ultra-precise ultrasound guidance without damaging the implant, and ultrasound can immediately confirm whether any rupture has occurred, so you can rest assured.

What is a breast biopsy (Mammotome procedure)?

Vacuum-assisted breast biopsy is a procedure commonly known by the generic name vacuum-assisted breast biopsy device (VABB). Under ultrasound guidance, a needle is inserted into the lesion, a vacuum suction device draws tissue into the needle, and a rotating blade inside the needle cuts and removes the lesion. It is used for tissue biopsy, and is also often used for the treatment of benign tumors.

Encor Ultra ™

Breast biopsy (Mammotome procedure) device: Encor Ultra

U&U Plastic Surgery uses the Encor Ultra, developed at Becton, Dickinson and Company in the United States by Dr. Steve Parker, the inventor of the Mammotome breast biopsy device, to improve on the inconveniences of earlier breast biopsy (Mammotome) equipment. It eases the difficulty and discomfort of breast cancer biopsies that once required open surgery, reduces patients' fear of implant damage, and helps protect beautiful breasts.
