Motiva Feel: 2 Misconceptions That Are Easy to Fall Into When Judging by Reviews
Hello — we are U&U Plastic Surgery, the clinic that used the most Motiva implants last year.

I've been researching breast augmentation,
and most people seem to go with Motiva.
So I'm looking into Motiva first —
how does it feel to the touch?
In the reviews, some say it's soft
and others say it's a bit firm..
Can it really differ from person to person?

Most patients who come in for a breast augmentation consultation have already decided on an implant — often Motiva.
But in deciding on an implant alone, most people rely only on other people's reviews.
Of course, some of you have watched 'breast implant comparison videos' on YouTube.
Even so, in actual practice, the same implant often ends up feeling different in different patients.
So under the theme 'what determines Motiva feel,' we would like to discuss 2 things:
- the time elapsed since surgery
- the factors besides implant brand that can influence feel
This comes from the clinic that used the most Motiva implants last year, so it should help you decide on your surgery.

1. Time elapsed since surgery
Source
You may have seen reviews written on day n or month n after Motiva breast augmentation.
To those readers, we would first say this:
for the breast to stabilize after surgery,
6 to 12 months are needed.

In other words, the feel can keep changing for at least 6 months after surgery.

Among the factors that determine feel is something called the 'capsule.'
The capsule is the membrane that forms around an implant once it enters the body. Its thickness and elasticity influence the feel.
But the capsule generally begins forming gradually around 3 months after surgery. In some patients it forms even earlier.
That is why the same Motiva reviews describe different feels depending on when they were written.
How feel evolves over the course of recovery is covered in more detail in the column below. It is based on 20 years of research experience, so please be sure to read it.

2. Beyond the implant brand,
the factors that can influence feel
Source
We mentioned the capsule earlier, but there are more factors that affect feel:
1) implant projection
2) ribcage shape (low and flat, or somewhat protruding)
3) the amount of existing breast tissue
4) the condition of existing breast tissue (loose or firm)
5) the dissection technique around the implant
6) how the muscle and fascia are handled
In short, the factors that determine Motiva feel go well beyond implant type.
Of the six above, items 2-4 are already fixed.
So we recommend also looking into the dissection technique around the implant and how the muscle and fascia are handled.
Those two are closely tied to where in your breast the implant will be positioned.
Implant placement falls broadly into 2 planes: above the pectoralis major, or below it.
Naturally, a breast with the implant under the muscle and one with the implant over the muscle will feel different.
We attach the columns we have written on this — please be sure to read them.
