The answer to this question depends on the type of breast asymmetry.

If the asymmetry comes from a difference in breast size between the two sides, it can be corrected by using implants of different sizes.

( * That is, symmetry is created by placing a smaller implant in the larger breast / a larger implant in the smaller breast. )

However, asymmetric breasts are not caused by size differences alone.

If the asymmetry stems from a skeletal issue - the ribs / sternum / scoliosis, etc. - there are cases where implant surgery alone cannot fully correct it.

Even after correction,

breasts are subject to gravity for a lifetime,

so can the corrected state

Our 10 Years’ Experience in Breast Asymmetry Correction.

The material above is a paper in an international plastic surgery journal - a study observing how much breast asymmetry can be corrected with implants.

A total of 402 women took part in this study.

They were followed for 10 years after surgery to see whether further correction was needed.

The results were as follows.

- 72% of all participants: further correction after the first surgery x

- The remaining 28%: further correction for sagging / differences in fold height, etc. o

- Patients who needed implant replacement: almost none

In other words, more than 7 out of 10 maintained symmetry for 10 years with a single surgery.

Regardless of the study results above, however, there is something you must be careful about.

If the cause of the asymmetry is not properly identified

and surgery goes ahead anyway,

the breasts can end up looking even more uneven.

Potential causes of breast asymmetry

- Differences in the volume of glandular and fat tissue

- Differences in the position of the nipple, areola, and inframammary fold

- Differences in how defined the breast contour is

- Differences in the distribution of breast tissue

- Differences in the height / shape of the chest bones

For reference, asymmetry caused by skeletal issues is realistically difficult for patients to identify on their own.
