Flat-Chest Breast Augmentation: Will Implants Look Too Obvious? <Advice Based on Actual Research>

My chest is so small

that every time I get dressed

it stresses me out to no end.

I'm thinking about surgery —

can a completely flat chest still be augmented naturally?

I read that you need enough skin and fat

for it to be less noticeable..

I don't have much of either,

so I'm worried it will look unnatural.

Hello — we are U&U Plastic Surgery, a clinic that performs breast surgery only.

I am writing this article for those who feel they have so little breast tissue that implant surgery itself might look unnatural.

Since subtlety matters to you, I assume you are not aiming for a D cup or larger.

So, setting implant size aside, I would like to share 2 ways to make breast augmentation less noticeable.

Even if you decide on surgery and visit a clinic, please be sure to discuss the 2 points below during your consultation.

1. Where in the breast

should the implant be placed?

Source

Where in the breast should the implant go? The options are divided by the pectoralis major (the chest muscle).

Simply put, the implant can be placed above the pectoralis major / or below the pectoralis major.

When placed below the pectoralis major, the implant is covered by muscle. Seen from the outside, the implant's edges are that much better concealed.

On implant positioning, there is also research on natural-looking breast augmentation methods for women with very flat chests.

The material above is a study introducing a method that keeps the implant from showing in people with flat chests / thin builds.

As mentioned earlier, implant placement is divided into above vs. below the pectoralis major.

I noted that placement above the muscle can be noticeable, so going below the muscle is more favorable. However, even though below the muscle can look natural, the breast may look distorted when you move.

So in this study, when placing the implant, the upper half was positioned under the muscle / the lower half under the fascia.

Blue = implant

/ the lower part sits above the red (muscle)

For reference, everyone who took part in this study had breast skin thickness of 2 cm or less.

A total of 27 women underwent surgery with this method and were followed for 1–2 years.

Most patients responded that their surgical results looked natural.

As these findings show, adjusting the implant's position can contribute to a 'natural look'.

The placement method described above is called the 'dual plane' technique.

The details are covered in the column below, so please save it for now.

2. Is hybrid breast augmentation an option?

Source

Hybrid breast augmentation means performing fat grafting together with implant surgery.

Fat grafting can naturally smooth over the edges created by the implant, so it can be effective for those with very flat chests.

Let me introduce 1 study conducted with this approach.

- When the implant's outline shows through

- When the upper edge of the implant stands out straight and looks artificial

- When the breasts feel like they move on their own, and so on..

The study was conducted to see whether fat grafting could improve what can happen when very flat-chested women get implant surgery.

A total of 197 women participated in the study.

All received implants along with autologous fat grafting around the implant, and were followed for more than a year.

As a result, over 90% responded 'natural' / 'very natural'.

However, after 1 year, only a little over 50% of the grafted fat remained.

It is natural for grafted fat to be absorbed by the body. From the patient's point of view, though, what matters is that as much fat as possible resists absorption and holds its shape.

The proportion of grafted fat that is not absorbed

but stays in place.

This is determined by where on the body the fat was originally harvested.

The details are covered in the column below — please read it after the dual plane column above.
