Creating the space inside the breast where the implant will sit — that process is called 'dissection.'

In pectus carinatum patients, this dissection is often concentrated toward the 'inner breast.'

To explain with the image above:

understand it as dissecting more in the area of the red box than in the area of the black box.

But the inner breast does not carry much fat. If the implant is positioned mainly toward the inner breast, the result can look unnatural.

To address this, the surgical plan may include fat grafting alongside, or placing the implant under the chest muscle from the outset.

2. How cleavage can be maintained

For about 1 month after surgery, the breast's shape can change easily.

During this period the implant pocket is still forming, so the implant can shift within the breast.

Also, surgery does not change the rib or sternum structure that causes pectus carinatum in the first place.

That is why, once the implant has settled after surgery, maintaining the breast's form is what protects the cleavage.

In this respect, 'proper bra wear' is an essential piece of aftercare for pectus carinatum patients.

So when choosing a plastic surgery clinic, look at surgical skill — and also at whether bra-wear aftercare is provided.
