Motiva Preservé? Explained by the clinic that used the most Motiva implants last year.
While researching breast augmentation,
I came across something called Preservé.
They say it damages less tissue, so recovery is faster,
and it can even be done under local anesthesia.
Is that true?
Work has always made it
hard to find the right time for breast surgery,
so I kept putting it off — but if this kind of surgery exists,
I'd like to give it some real thought.

Hello, this is U&U Plastic Surgery, the clinic ranked No. 1 in Motiva implant usage last year.

(4673 breast augmentation reviews alone)

The reason recovery is fast after Motiva Preservé surgery is that less tissue is damaged during the operation.
In conventional breast augmentation, blood vessels / muscles / ligaments were dissected with an electrocautery device during surgery.
Motiva Preservé uses a 'balloon' to create the space where the implant will be placed.
Below is a gif showing how the 'balloon' is used to create the implant pocket.
Please take about 3 seconds to watch the clip below.
Did you watch it?
As you can see, the balloon expands inside the breast.
In other words, the balloon inflates and pushes the tissue aside, creating the space for the implant.
Of course, that does not mean tissue damage during surgery becomes completely 'zero'.
Dissection is performed with the aim of preserving surrounding tissue without cutting muscle, but the usual side effects of surgery - bleeding / inflammation - can still occur.
Still, compared with conventional breast augmentation, you can think of it as a tissue-preserving approach that aims to shorten the recovery period.

Still, an implant is going into the breast —
with just local anesthesia / IV sedation,
would it really be okay?
I heard conventional breast augmentation
was mostly done under general anesthesia..

That is a completely understandable concern.
As mentioned earlier, conventional breast augmentation caused damage to muscles / small blood vessels / nerves during surgery. That is why general anesthesia was necessary.
But when a balloon pushes the tissue aside, the tissue is not torn or scraped.
There is also less vessel rupture, so bleeding is minimal, and nerve irritation is low as well — which is why it can be done under local anesthesia or IV sedation.
( * Whether local anesthesia is possible may vary depending on the patient's health condition and the medical team's judgment.)

The surgical technique used in Preservé breast augmentation is in fact an upgraded version of the long-used 'dual plane' technique.
Also, using a balloon to create the pocket is a surgical method that has been in use for a very long time.

(Published 1998) A research paper on the balloon-assisted surgical technique
Preservé has already been performed in Europe for several years.
It is understandable to be cautious about a newer technique, but we would like to tell you there is no need to worry too much.
Motiva Preservé breast augmentation is not currently performed at every plastic surgery clinic in Korea.
Moreover, in Korea the surgery has only been performed since the first half of this year, so there may be fewer reviews compared with conventional breast augmentation.
That is why we recommend deciding on surgery only after a consultation at a clinic that actually performs Motiva Preservé.
